Pre-engineered. Code-compliant. Canadian made.
Steel garage kits built for Canadian winters.
Pre-engineered steel garage kits delivered flat-pack to your property. Every piece numbered, every screw labelled, and every kit engineered for the snow and wind loads where you live.
What arrives on your driveway
What comes in a SteelBuilt garage kit.
Your kit arrives on a 48 to 53-foot flatbed truck. It breaks down into three parts, plus every fastener and bracket needed to put the building together. Every piece is colour-coded and numbered, so you always know exactly where it goes.
I-beam rigid frames.
The backbone of the building. Heavy-duty Canadian steel that carries the weight of the roof, the snow load, and everything else above you.
Girts and purlins.
The horizontal members that hold the rigid frames together and form the surface that everything else attaches to.
Wall and roof panels.
Galvanized steel exterior panels, optional interior liner panel for a finished look, and to protect insulation if you add it.
Every screw and bolt is colour-coded and numbered. If you can read instructions, you can build it.Doug Kerr // Division Manager, SteelBuilt
Real project costs
What does a steel garage kit actually cost?
Most steel building companies will quote you a price online without knowing where your building is going. That is how people end up with a building that fails their permit inspection. Snow loads in British Columbia are not snow loads in Ontario. Seismic loads on Vancouver Island are not seismic loads in Huntsville.
Every garage we build is engineered to your municipality's actual code requirements, which is why we do not put fixed prices on this page.
What we will do is show you the real numbers from two recently completed projects. The kit, the foundation, the install, the doors, the insulation. No averages, no ranges, no fine print. Two finished garages, two real invoices.
Why would you just rely on a number on a website? You need contact with somebody who knows what they are talking about so you can be informed and make your decision.Doug Kerr // SteelBuilt

Most popular steel garage sizes.
A 30 by 50 garage is our most-requested size, but we build kits anywhere from a single-vehicle 20 by 30 up to a 30 by 100 storage barn. The right size depends on what you need to fit, what your property allows, and what the local building department will approve. Talk to your municipality before you commit to a size.

Setting up for a smooth build
How a smart steel garage project gets started.
After 200+ projects, we have noticed a pattern. The smoothest steel garage builds all start the same way. Here is what they tend to have in common.
A quick chat with the town.
A 15-minute visit to your local building department clears up height limits, setbacks, and any restrictions specific to your property. Bring a site plan and a rough sketch of where the garage will sit. They are the ones approving the permit, so their feedback helps shape the build.
A look at your zoning.
Agricultural land, residential lots, and commercial zones each have different rules. Knowing your zoning early helps us design a building that fits both your needs and your property's permitted use.
Bring it to us.
Once we know your municipality, your zoning, and your loads, we can engineer a building that fits your site, your needs, and the local code. The drawings are on us.
Have you talked to the town yet? That's our first question on every call. If not, we help you take it from there.Doug Kerr // SteelBuilt
Six things people get wrong about steel garage kits.
Do I need a massive concrete foundation for a steel garage kit?
No. You need proper footings, the same as any building. If you want gravel or dirt inside the garage, that is fine. The footings hold the building down so it does not move in heavy wind. A full slab is optional and depends on what you are using the garage for.
Are steel garage kits more expensive than wood?
Material cost is roughly the same. Where you save with steel is on labour and time. A 20x30 wood garage might take a Red Seal carpenter weeks of part-time work, often booked a year out. The same garage in steel goes up in three days with our crew.
Are steel garages cold in winter?
Only if they are not insulated. Once you add proper insulation and a heat source, a steel garage is just as comfortable as living in a house.
Will the steel rust?
Our cladding carries a 40-year warranty against rust and colour degradation. The actual lifespan of properly maintained steel cladding is significantly longer.
Are steel buildings noisy when it rains?
Modern steel buildings, properly insulated, are no noisier than a house. You will hear thunder. You will not hear rain on the roof.
Will I have to wait a year for someone to build my steel garage?
No. SteelBuilt crews build only steel buildings. A 20x30 garage takes about three days from delivery to finished build.
