Steel buildings in Ontario have to be engineered for the place they're going. Your municipality sets the snow loads, wind loads, and rain loads your building must handle, and no two towns are quite the same. A building designed for Huntsville snow country is not the same building as one designed for Windsor or Ottawa.
That's why we engineer every SteelBuilt to the requirements of your specific municipality, not to a generic template. Whether your property is in the GTA, cottage country, Eastern Ontario, or up north, your building arrives with stamped drawings that match your local building department's requirements.
Our advice to every Ontario customer is the same: before you plan anything, take your site plan into your town's building department and ask what applies to your property. Setbacks, height restrictions, zoning. They're the ones who sign off on your permit, so start there. We'll help you prepare for that conversation, and our drawings and quotes are free of charge.
One more thing worth knowing. Be careful with "half price" buildings that were supposedly designed for another region. A building engineered for BC seismic loads or a different snow zone won't pass inspection in Ontario. Your building inspector will not let it go up. Every building we quote you is engineered for your site from the start.

Do I need a permit for a steel building in Ontario?
In almost all cases, yes. Your municipality issues the permit and sets the requirements for your property. Our advice is to visit your town's building department first with your site plan and our preliminary drawings. They'll tell you about setbacks, height restrictions, and anything else that applies. We provide stamped drawings and help you prepare the permit package.
What snow loads does my building need?
It depends on where in Ontario you're building. Each municipality specifies the snow, wind, and rain loads for its area, and we engineer your building to those exact numbers. A building for Huntsville carries different loads than one for Ottawa or Windsor. That's also why a "deal" on a building designed for another region is a building your inspector won't approve.
Can I put the building up myself?
If you're a fairly handy person, yes. Every piece down to the last screw and bolt is colour-coded and numbered, and the instructions walk you through where everything goes. Plenty of our Ontario customers have built their own. If you'd rather not spend your weeks on it, our crews handle the full installation. A 20x30 garage typically takes our crew about 3 days.
Do you deliver to Northern Ontario?
Yes. We deliver and install across the entire province, including Northern Ontario and remote communities. The building arrives on a flatbed ready for assembly.
What affects the cost of a steel building in Ontario?
Size is the obvious one, but the biggest variables are your location's engineering loads, the frame type, and options like insulation and interior liner panel. Zoning matters too: a building on agricultural land is engineered differently than a post-disaster rated building. That's why we quote each project individually instead of posting one-size-fits-all prices. The quote is free, and the price we quote is the price you pay.
Do you handle the foundation?
We can. Our construction division coordinates foundation design with our civil engineer, who prepares the stamped foundation drawings. And a common misconception: you don't necessarily need a full concrete pad. Proper footings are what's required to secure the building, and gravel or dirt floors are an option depending on your use.
